Cognitive Functional
Capacity Evaluations (CogFCE)

Measures physical and cognitive capacity to perform tasks in the real world.

A Cognitive Functional Capacity Evaluation (CogFCE)

Builds on the commonly used Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) and assesses cognition including more subtle abilities in the areas of executive function, such as attention, concentration, planning, organizing, and following directions.

A thorough two-day assessment, the CogFCE includes objective measurements, standardized assessments of physical and cognitive function, non-standardized assessments and direct observation of physical, cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial functioning. This includes evaluating the impact of cognitive fatigue on skills and can also identify difficulties with emotional regulation and frustration tolerance.

The CogFCE can provide insight into overall tolerances for activities and can be modified to consider issues in real-world circumstances. Depending on the nature of the cognitive issues the CogFCE can be a stand-alone report or an adjunct to a neuropsychological assessment, providing real-world examples of issues identified.
